What to Bring to a Vipassana Course

Vipassana courses are simple, focused environments. To support your practice, please bring only essential items and follow the guidelines below, valid for all centers and temporary course locations in Brazil.

  • Comfortable, modest clothing
  • Warm layers
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Towels
  • Bedding or sleeping bag
  • Flashlight
  • Water bottle
  • Prescription medications
  • Cash for transportation or small needs

Religious objects

Rosaries, crystals, talismans, and similar items will be kept by management until the end of the course.

Intoxicants and drugs

Alcohol, recreational drugs, sedatives, tranquilizers, and sleeping pills are not allowed.

Tobacco

Smoking, chewing tobacco, and snuff are not permitted.

Food

Personal food is not allowed. Medical diets must be communicated during application.

Inappropriate clothing

Avoid tight, transparent, short, or revealing clothing.

Laundry and bathing

No washing machines available. Bring enough clothing for the entire course.

External contact

Phones, tablets, and laptops must be surrendered to management until the end of the course.

Reading, writing, and music

No books, notebooks, musical instruments, or audio devices.

Cameras and recording

Only with teacher authorization.
